On July 30, Congo will have its first national multiparty election in 45 years, and with it, many hope, a chance to leave behind its violent and corrupt past. - World Magazine, July 2006

DR Congo has a new constitution and a new set of 26 provinces. The July 30 election will have 33 presidential candidates and 267 political parties.

Results[]

Preliminary results are expected to be released on August 2, but due to the remoteness of many polling stations, results are not expected to be finalised until three weeks after the polls close.
