  • I am an atheist and I believe that the various religions have historically been, and are still being, wether directly or indirectly, responsible of most of the evil in the world. What do you think ? -- 05:46, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
  • I am in disagreement. The only reason the inquisition was possible, was because those in charge were keeping the true scripture away from people, and distorting it to protect the status quo. Jesus didn't call for governments to lock-up the Bible and restrict it from others. Many things have been done under the guise of Christianity that aren't Christian at all. If they didn't have a religion to use to promote their own agenda, they would find something else. Politics is a great area for such self-serving behavior. I would also like to note that religion or no religion, we're still going to have sociopaths and anti-social individuals in our society. Greed (e.g. murdering people for money, allowing defective products to be sold, going to war for resources) isn't going away either, nor is lying to get ahead, or spousal abuse. I don't recall a lot of faiths endorsing violent retribution either. --Anphanax 06:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
  • I am in agreement with the original poster. I think religion and government - Church and State - should be kept as widely separated as possible in order to preserve our most precious ideals of freedom.
